Eamonn Holmes seen in wheelchair as he holds hands with Christine McGuinness at TRIC Awards

Eamonn Holmes was seen putting on a courageous front as he attended his first public event in a wheelchair.

The 64-year-old TV veteran made his way to the prestigious TRIC Awards on Tuesday, choosing to bypass the red carpet. This marked his inaugural award ceremony appearance since the surprising news of his split from wife Ruth Langsford last month, ending their 14-year marriage.

At the awards - an event he always attended accompanied by Ruth - Eamonn was spotted in a wheelchair. The GB News presenter was photographed sitting alone before being joined by other guests, including Christine McGuinness and Angellica Bell.

Christine was pictured warmly holding Eamonn's hand and draping an arm around his shoulder as they posed with smiles for the camera. Eamonn was smartly dressed in a black suit paired with a crisp white shirt and a striking blue tie.

He was in the running for Best TV Presenter, facing off against the likes of Susanna Reid, Nigel Farage, and Matt Chorley, reports the Mirror.

In the lead-up to the TRIC Awards, insiders close to Eamonn expressed uncertainty over his ability to attend due to his ongoing back problems. They revealed that while he holds dear memories of past ceremonies having previously won awards and enjoyed catching up with television industry colleagues his attendance would hinge on how he felt on the day.

"He would like to go but it is in the balance, a lot will depend on how he feels on the day," a source confided to The Mirror.

Eamonn made his presence at the event known by posting a snapshot from within the lavish locale on Instagram. Slipping inconspicuously into the venue, he waited patiently for his meal to be served.

"Whatever the results, a nice lunch awaits #Tricawards," he captioned the image taken at his table.

Eamonn and Ruth stunned fans last month as they announced the end of their marriage. A representative for the former couple disclosed: "Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes have confirmed their marriage is over and they are in the process of divorcing."

The separation didn't come entirely as a surprise to followers, as the ex-This Morning hosts hadn't been seen together for quite some time.

Famous for their scuffs and squabbles, which were often broadcasted live on ITV, the pair insisted their disputes were borne out of love. Following the split, it's understood that Eamonn has formed a close relationship with Katie Alexander, a 42-year-old relationship counsellor, who's been assisting him navigate through the difficult times.

Numerous outings over the past 12 months, along with Katie being photographed at his residence, hint at the burgeoning friendship.

Ruth was spotted enjoying a night out last Thursday, appearing cheerful after enduring a challenging few weeks. She attended Anton Du Beke and Giovanni Pernice's 'Together' stage show, sharing a video of the curtain call and a snapshot with her friend Anton.

Eamonn and Ruth first crossed paths in 1997 through mutual friends, dated for more than ten years before Eamonn proposed, leading to their marriage in 2010.
