Eamonn Holmes has sparked some controversy following his much-anticipated comeback to GB News on Tuesday morning.

The 64 year old broadcaster addressed the public for the first time since the announcement of his split from Ruth Langsford.

The Belfast-born TV host showed appreciation for the support during his separation, saying: "Your support for both of us is very much appreciated."

Although Eamonn briefly mentioned his divorce before quickly moving on to the day's newspaper headlines, he didn't shy away from critiquing less serious news items. This led to some viewers calling him "irritable" and "rude".

He also made light-hearted remarks about Chancellor Rishi Sunak being snapped while playing football, comparing him to a dull school headteacher, the Mirror reports.

He joked: "Can this man get any more boring than he is and this business of conscription, this business of maths. He just would have made a perfect awful head teacher, wouldn't he? Oh, Mr Sunak's in today, he's a right bore, he is."

His on-air interactions with co-presenter Isabel Webster, 41, appeared to be filled with tension. Viewers quickly took to the comments section to express their views.

One viewer commented: "Crikey Eamonn you are in a stinking mood this morning. Much as I admire you I kind of feel for Isabel today, give her a break eh."

One onlooker remarked: "Someone needs to take irritable Eamonn he's a nightmare today."

A third observer expressed: "He is making it into car crash TV. Don't know how Isabel is coping with him. He is being so rude to everybody. Does this have to go on for another two hours? ".

A viewer sympathised: "Eamonn may be going through a difficult time but don't take it out on Isabel. Stay at home until you feel better."

Earlier in the show, Eamonn shared his "emotional" weekend following Manchester United's FA Cup triumph over Manchester City on Saturday.

The 2-1 victory for Man Utd came just hours before news of his split surfaced.

On Tuesday, Eamonn told his co-host Isabel Webster: "The weekend was just marvellous, marvellous, marvellous.

"The FA Cup final was one of the greatest cup finals there has ever been. It got me there. Yeah, it's emotional. ".

Eamonn and Ruth have been wed since 2010 and have been together as a couple for nearly three decades. They share a son, Jack, born in 2002.

The GB News star also has his three kids, Declan, Rebecca and Niall from his first marriage to Gabrielle.
