Eamonn Holmes has criticised the decision to re-open Westminster Bridge so soon after the London terror attack.

The presenter said on This Morning that "out of decency", he thinks more respect should have been paid to those who lost their lives on Wednesday (March 22).

"I think it opened too quickly," he said. "I think politicians talk about this stiff upper lip and 'back to business' thing, but I actually think out of decency they should have closed the pedestrian walkway.

"We need to remember that people were killed there less than 48 hours ago."

Eamonn and Ruth Langsford both walked across the bridge to reflect on this week's events.

Ruth admitted that she found it "really difficult", adding: "We've heard so many details. It was very hard.

"But then I do understand [why Westminister Bridge was re-opened]. It shows that we won't be beaten by these people."

"People say it shows we won't be beaten and life moves on, but life doesn't go on for the families of those people," Eamonn countered.

Viewers at home were generally supportive of Eamonn's comments.

One Twitter user posted: "I agree with Eamonn on this. A little respect doesn't mean we are bowing to evil. Good will overcome."

James Corden, Dermot O'Leary, and Piers Morgan are among those who have commented on the tragic events on TV in the last couple of days, all of whom stated their confidence that London will remain unified.

This Morning airs weekdays on ITV.
