Early summer break for MPs planned as pressure grows on Theresa May over Brexit strategy

A motion has been tabled to bring forward the summer break for MPs to later this week.

Ministers have asked that Parliament rises on Thursday for mid-year recess rather than next Tuesday, the date initially scheduled.

MPs are expected vote on bringing forward the summer recess tomorrow.

It comes amid growing pressure on Prime Minister Theresa May over her Brexit strategy.

Mrs May was accused of "caving in" to pressure from hardline Brexiteers after accepting changes to her Chequers plan for leaving the European Union.

Eurosceptics tabled amendments to the Customs Bill - which the Government accepted - after Mrs May produced a plan at Chequers that would keep the UK closely tied to Brussels' rules on goods and food.

Earlier today North Cornwall MP Scott Mann resigned over the Prime Minister's "watered down" Brexit plan.
