An 8.1 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Chiapas in southern Mexico, the US Geological Survey (USGS) reported shortly before midnight on September 7,

This footage shows the interior of a McDonalds in Tuxtla Gutierrez, Chiapas, which suffered severe damage due to the earthquake. Broken glass and other utensils can be seen scattered about the store floor.
