Former East 17 star Brian Harvey has been arrested on suspicion of sending ‘malicious’ tweets.

The singer, 43, was taken to a police station in north London on Wednesday after the Metropolitan Police “received an allegation of malicious communications relating to a Twitter account”.

“On Wednesday November 22, a man in his 40s was arrested on suspicion of malicious communications and has been taken to a north London police station. Enquiries continue,” a police statement read.

Harvey enjoyed chart success in the 1990s with the boy band, who had top 10 hits with singles including Stay Another Day and House of Love.

He was fired from the band in 1997 after making comments in a radio interview that appeared to condone the use of ecstasy.

Just one year later he re-joined the group, which was rebranded as E-17, and they released album Resurrection.

The star, who has been open about his battle with depression in the past, was run over by his own car back in 2005.

Harvey claimed that he had eaten too many jacket potatoes and had leant out of the driver’s window to be sick when the car rolled over him, breaking his ribs and puncturing his lungs.

He was rushed to hospital where he remained unconscious for three weeks and before having 12 hours of surgery.
