East Kilbride boss Mick Kennedy says his side deserved win over Airdrie in 90 minutes
East Kilbride boss Mick Kennedy was glad to see his side oust SPFL Trust Trophy holders Airdrie on penalties - because they deserved to win in 90 minutes.
The sides were locked at 1-1 after Gavin Gallagher's late strike cancelled out Jordan McGregor's first-half opener.
That sent the tie into penalties, with Cami Elliott, Scott Leitch, Lewis Spence, John Robertson, Reegan Mimnaugh and David Ferguson netting, while Matty Connelly saved Chris Mochrie's effort.
That sent Kilby into the quarter-final and semi-final draw on Wednesday, and he couldn't be happier, especially after losing 8-0 here in the Premier Sports Cup earlier this season.
He said: "I thought the boys were excellent today, I thought they thoroughly deserved it and should have won the game in 90 minutes.

"Too many people looked at the first game at the start of the season but that wasn't a reflection of where we were, or the team we were going to be.
"I always knew today was going to be different and I thought the boys were excellent.
"We had loads of opportunities in the game and you think that's going t0 be one of the things that come back and bite you on the backside, but the guys showed a bit of resilience.
"I'm glad it went to penalties because the game was becoming a bit too open for my liking.
"But I'm delighted to be in the next round."
