Man rushed to hospital after car 'turned upside down' in crash on major East Lothian road

A crash on a major road has led sparked traffic to tailback on Saturday afternoon.

The A1 Northbound at Wallyford is currently restricted following a crash at around 1.15pm on May 18.

Locals reported seeing an overturned car at the turn-off to the city bypass as traffic was tailing back into Tranent and along the city bypass.

It is understood emergency services are at the scene.

Traffic Scotland has urged drivers to approach the area with caution and expect delays while residents are urging other drivers to avoid the area.

Traffic Scotland said: "The A1 Northbound at Wallyford is currently restricted due to a road traffic incident. Motorists are advised to approach with caution and expect delays in the area."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “About 12.40pm on Saturday, May 18, 2024, we were called to one car crash on the A1 northbound near to New Craighall, Edinburgh.

“Emergency services attended and a 23-year-old man was taken to hospital as a precaution.

“Recovery was arranged for the vehicle.

“Enquiries are ongoing regarding the circumstances.”
