An East Lothian premier outdoor activity centre will open its doors to eager customers on Saturday, September 21.

Wild Cairns is set to open at a retreat in Tranent offering over 30 assault course obstacles as well as axe-throwing and an airsoft zombie gun range. The activities are open to everyone aged eight and up.

The new activity centre was given the green light in August, and Co-Directors Scott Smith and Angus McLeod got to work straight away.

Scott spoke to Edinburgh Live with updates to the opening weekend: "We have set our opening date for Saturday 21st September and our activity centre will be officially opened by Lord Provost John McMillan at noon.

"Work to complete the obstacles and our Axe throwing area and Airsoft Gun range is scheduled to be completed this week and our changing facilities will be ready for the opening day."

Scott mentions that they are almost sold out for the opening day, and some slots for Sunday, September 22.

He adds: "We are really excited to finally have an opening date, after months of planning, meetings and finally building everything, we can't wait to get Active Outdoors. Our company ethos is that everyone goes away with a smile and we cant wait to see those smiles."

Among the 30 activities on offer, there are rope and tyre swings, high walls, slides and a four-meter-high cargo net. The new outdoor activity centre will create up to six jobs.

Scott Smith said: “Assault courses offer numerous benefits, such as improving physical fitness, building confidence, enhancing teamwork skills, and boosting mental health through outdoor exercise. Our course is designed for both adults and children from the age of eight upwards, ensuring fun and fitness for the whole family”

Angus said: “As seasoned obstacle course participants, with over 150 races between us, we have always wanted to have our own venue to get people outdoors and enjoy the sport we are very passionate about as it not only is great fun but it can also help build confidence and boost your mental health and working out in the great outdoors.”

The assault course costs £25pp for Adults and £15pp for under 16s with the lower age of 8 years old. This will take between 1 and 1.5 hours to complete depending on the group size.
