EastEnders absolutely dominated BBC iPlayer last month

EastEnders was hugely popular on BBC iPlayer in July, taking up 16 spots in the 20 most-watched programmes.

Seven episodes of the BBC soap landed in the top 10 most-requested shows, totalling around 7.8 million streams.

EastEnders' highest-charting episode was the one that got moved to BBC Two on July 7 –being requested a total of 1.2 million times by viewers on the catch-up service.

The soap's second-highest performer was the episode which aired Phil Mitchell's long-awaited return to Walford on Tuesday, July 25.

The month's most popular broadcast on BBC iPlayer was the first episode of crime drama In The Dark, which received 1.6 million requests.

Other top-performing dramas in July include the Doctor Who series finale and the return of crime drama Top of the Lake, which stars Elisabeth Moss, Nicole Kidman and Gwendoline Christie.

EastEnders continues tonight (August 18) at 8pm on BBC One.
