Yahoo News EastEnders airs Phil Mitchell's long-awaited return
EastEnders aired Phil Mitchell's long-awaited return tonight (July 24) as his son Ben called him to come home.
Phil (Steve McFadden) has been off screen since January when he went abroad to recuperate following his life-saving liver transplant, but spoilers had revealed that he would be back this week.
Phil's absence has been a big topic of conversation over the last couple of episodes, as his daughter Louise was hospitalised with serious injuries after her dress went up in flames at the school prom.
Monday's visit to Walford focused on the aftermath of Lisa Fowler's own return after she rushed to the hospital upon hearing about Louise's accident through Sonia.
Lisa's arrival paved the way for an epic showdown between her and Sharon – who made it clear that she wasn't wanted or needed in Louise's life anymore.
As the two women went over the past, Sharon eventually gave Lisa an ultimatum – insisting that if she wanted to be a part of Louise's recovery process then she couldn't disappear again.
Deeply regretful over the breakdown of her relationship with Louise, Lisa vowed to support her every step of the way, but now faces a serious obstacle in the shape of Phil – who she knows won't be pleased to see her.
Although Sharon remained unsure over whether to contact her husband and tell him about Louise, the decision was taken out of her hands when Ben made the call for her.
Struggling to know what to do for the best, an angry Ben decided to call on his dad – having been talked out of going after Madison and Alexandra for revenge.
The closing moments saw Ben make contact with Phil – who was asleep abroad – and he'll be back in Walford in tomorrow's scenes. But what will happen when he comes face-to-face with Lisa? One thing is for sure, this is one showdown not to be missed...
EastEnders continues tomorrow (July 25) at 7.30pm on BBC One.
