Abi Branning escaped justice in EastEnders' dramatic episode tonight (September 22) when Steven Beale's twisted lies were exposed from beyond the grave.
Steven (Aaron Sidwell) left viewers sickened in his final storyline, which saw him lie to his fiancée Lauren Branning and the rest of his family about being terminally ill with a brain tumour.
His shocking behaviour set in motion a tragic chain of events that ultimately led to his death in the show's recent disaster week, but Steven's grieving loved ones finally got some answers as they prepared for his funeral tonight.
As everyone prepared to say their goodbyes to Steven at the service, the family liaison officer threw a spanner in the works when she arrived at The Vic and broke the news that he didn't have a brain tumour.
When Lauren pushed for answers on what the post-mortem had revealed, the liaison officer said he actually died from a bleed to the liver – undoubtedly caused from his fatal scuffle with Max Branning.
It was also revealed that Steven had been taking animal pills in his final days alive – after traces of them were found in his blood.
The news left Steven's friends and family shocked, but Abi soon found herself coming under fire when Lauren quizzed her on whether she'd given him the pills.
Abi profusely denied having anything to do with Steven's scheme – despite the fact we know she was one of the driving forces behind it – and later attended his funeral alone.
Abi appears to be in the clear for now, but given that she's secretly carrying Steven's love child, surely it's only a matter of time before her own lies are exposed as well?
