Believe it or not, EastEnders' Pat Butcher, zany comic Christopher Biggins and Tracey Stubbs from Birds of a Feather spent an hour talking about, and pounding, weed on ITV on Monday (November 13).

No, this wasn't some pot-fuelled fever dream but an ITV factual series called Gone to Pot: American Road Trip, which gathered a group of five random celebrities and chucked them across the US learning about weed.

Legendary soap star Pam St. Clement, Linda Robson, ex-footballer John Fashanu, former pro darts player Bobby George and the aforementioned Biggins have been sent on this journey to decide if they think marijuana should be legalised back home in the UK.

Throughout the hour, the UK celebs met with people in San Francisco whose lives have been helped, and in some cases harmed, by the loosening of drug laws in certain parts of the US over the last few years.

Viewers also got an answer to a question for the ages from Pam St. Clement: What would happen if Pat Butcher got REALLY high on the wacky tabacky?

"She'd take all her clothes off, dreadful woman," Pam joked, adding: "Except her earrings!"

That wasn't quite the scenario that played out during the episode when Pam St. Clement took a few puffs on a joint, while the crew were visiting a group of weed-smoking nuns. Yes, really.

"It was weird seeing Pat Butcher from EastEnders smoking a joint. But she gave it go," Bobby George chuckled.

Gone to Pot: American Road Trip was a bizarre - but also insightful - hour of telly that provoked quite a lot of debate on social media about the decriminalisation of weed… and the oddity of seeing a tie-dyed Pat Butcher exploring the wonders of weed with.
