Yahoo News EastEnders' Steven traps Lauren with new wedding plans
EastEnders' Lauren Branning has been forced into marrying Steven Beale as soon as September thanks to more scheming from him and her dad Max.
Viewers know Lauren has been trapped into staying with her boyfriend Steven after he lied about having a brain tumour to stop her from leaving him.
If that wasn't difficult enough, Lauren (Jacqueline Jossa) has now been backed into another corner where Steven is concerned and is facing the prospect of becoming his wife by the autumn.
Lauren had no choice but to accept Steven's public proposal when he got down on one knee in The Vic, but thought she'd found a way out of her never-ending nightmare in tonight's episode.
With Max absent from the proposal gathering, Lauren found a loophole in the marriage plans and told Steven that she wouldn't be wearing her engagement ring until he'd had permission from her dad.
While Steven reluctantly agreed to speak to him, Lauren left Max a desperate voicemail – begging him to avoid Steven for the time being.
But in another questionable move, Max ignored Lauren's pleas and told Steven they had his blessing –later lying to his daughter that he hadn't received her earlier message.
Lauren was crushed to learn that Max had given Steven the go-ahead, and seeing no other way out, decided to accept her fate as she put on her engagement ring.
Fans will have to keep watching to see how Lauren copes with the latest development, but there is certainly a huge mystery surrounding Max's motives here – given that he is fully aware of Steven's lies regarding his illness.
What is Max up to now? And what does the future hold for a miserable Lauren?
