EastEnders boss Chris Clenshaw confirms more returning characters

EastEnders boss Chris Clenshaw has confirmed that more classic characters are set to return to the soap.

Earlier this year, Cindy and Ian Beale made their big returns to Walford, with Cindy coming back from the dead after 25 years away from the soap.

Lauren Branning and Fatboy have also made brief returns in 2023, with viewers hoping that more classic characters could be on their way back.

"There will be some characters returning in the not-too-distant future. They will be announced soon," he said. "Watch this space. We have got some new characters coming that are arriving soon."

The soap's recent storylines have been a big hit with viewers, leading to three wins at the National Television Awards and six at the Inside Soap Awards earlier this week, thanks to public votes.

Speaking about the wins, Clenshaw said: "Don’t underestimate the soap audience. What we do is for our audience.

"We have a really loyal fanbase. If you can strike the right chord with storylines, they will get behind it."

Meanwhile, Danny Dyer recently opened up about why he left the soap, explaining that he felt the standards of his storylines had started to drop.

"I was blessed with some amazing storylines, some shite ones as well," he said. "They f**ked it up towards the end. It's a shame it had to come to an end but I'd f**king had enough."

EastEnders airs on Mondays - Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer.
