On tonight's EastEnders, Callum Highway finally opened up about his past relationship with Chris after learning of his death in last night's episode.

Recently, viewers have seen that Callum has been struggling with his sexuality, and his secretive behaviour has left his fiancée Whitney with suspicions that he's hiding something.

On Monday (August 12), Callum was visited by a woman named Vicky who shared the tragic news that her brother Chris had passed away in a head-on collision.

Vicky also shared that Chris had written secret romantic letters about an unnamed man and although it was clear Callum was the man from the letters, he denied any knowledge of who they could be about to Vicky.

In tonight's (August 13) episode, Callum still had Chris on his mind and couldn't concentrate at work, prompting him to leave and head to the memorial where he gave Vicky the beret Chris had in the army.

But being at the service ended up being too much for Callum and he returned to the Square, only to be confronted by Whitney who demanded to know what was going on as she accused him of having an affair.

Feeling under pressure, Callum eventually revealed that he had just learned of an army friend's death, but while Whitney did her best to support him, Callum struggled to hold it together and instead went back to the memorial, where he finally opened up to Vicky.

Callum admitted to Vicky that he was the person in Chris' letters, revealing that they were in love, but Callum couldn't admit to his feelings at the time.

As the pair later said their goodbyes, Vicky gave Callum the love letters from Chris and also returned Chris' beret for Callum to remember him by.

Viewers were heartbroken for Callum over losing Chris, but they were also immensely proud of him for finally opening up to someone.

Back in June, Callum actor Tony Clay spoke to Digital Spy about Callum's sexuality storyline.

"Soaps reflect real issues in society, so it's possible the storyline could make somebody say: 'Actually, I want to start being more true to who I am. I want to start doing things that make me feel better about who I am'," Clay said.

"If that happens, that's a great thing and then we've done our job. I'd love to see Callum be a bit more comfortable with it. But we'll have to wait and see whether Callum does turn out to do that."

EastEnders continues on Thursday (August 15) at 7.30pm on BBC One.
