EastEnders aired a cameo appearance for child killer Bobby Beale tonight (October 17) as Max Branning's awful revenge continued to intensify.

Max (Jake Wood) is currently on a mission to get Jane Beale out of the way now that she's woken from her coma – terrified about what she might reveal if she doesn't go.

Although Jane (Laurie Brett) has accepted that she needs to comply with Max's demands and leave Walford, she was delivered another devastating bombshell in Tuesday's scenes when she realised that her husband Ian wasn't allowed to go with her.

Jane had successfully managed to convince Ian to up sticks and leave the Square without being asked too many questions – unaware that James Willmott-Brown was about to throw an almighty spanner in the works.

As Max attended a meeting with the evil villain –who returned to the show last month – he was thrown into a new dilemma when it became clear that Willmott-Brown and Weyland & Co needed Ian to stay put.

The reasons for that aren't entirely clear at this stage, but Willmott-Brown insisted that the businessman would be useful for them further down the line.

With this in mind, Max was forced to pay Jane another hospital visit, where he told her there had been a misunderstanding and she needed to leave without her husband.

Jane initially tried to stand her ground with Max as she told him she'd had enough of his manipulation, but he played his trump card when he showed her a video of her jailed son Bobby.

The short clip showed Bobby in his prison cell being filmed by one of his inmates – with Max using the footage to warn Jane about what would happen if she didn't do what she was told.

The threat to Bobby's safety is undoubtedly the reason why Jane does ultimately prepare to leave Ian – and Walford – later this week, but will anyone discover that Max is behind her shock exit?

Eliot Carrington reprised his role as Bobby for tonight's brief appearance – appearing in the credits at the end of the episode.

Bobby hasn't been seen on screen since June last year when he was sentenced to three years in prison for killing his sister Lucy back in 2014 and later attacking his step-mum Jane.

EastEnders continues on Thursday, October 19 at 7.30pm on BBC One.
