EastEnders has confirmed Amy Mitchell’s struggle will continue after her major injuries in the recent crowd crush.

The teen is lucky to be alive after going into cardiac arrest and suffering a broken pelvis when she was crushed against a barrier in the over-crowded Peggy's nightclub.

Amy and her father Jack Branning thus far do not know that Chelsea Fox has some responsibility for the incident because she sabotaged the club's booking system.

Denise was subsequently horrified when Chelsea confessed the truth to her in a recent episode but has agreed to keep her daughter's secret for now.

In upcoming scenes, Jack is told that Amy will finally be discharged from the hospital. While the doctors feel Amy is ready for this major step, she is still struggling to cope with the gravity of her injuries.

Denise rallies around Jack, assuring him that everything will return to normal as Amy continues to heal. Privately, Denise feels guiltier than ever over keeping Chelsea's secret.

Chelsea is relieved once she finds out about Amy's hospital release, yet Denise scolds her — reminding Chelsea that the teen has a long road to physical recovery and might take even longer to heal emotionally.

Denise and Chelsea tentatively agree to join the Brannings at the Vic for a 'welcome home' party in Amy's honour. Amy struggles with the attention as she adjusts to her new reality.

Chelsea goes overboard to try to make Amy feel better, showering her with gifts and attention. Meanwhile, Denise is fuming over her daughter's surface-level attempts to make things right for Amy.

These scenes will air next week.

EastEnders airs on Mondays - Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast.
