EastEnders confirms George Knight's Christmas Day secret
EastEnders spoilers follow.
EastEnders has aired the aftermath of Elaine Knight's discovery that may incriminate her husband George for Cindy Beale's attack.
In Wednesday's (January 8) episode, Elaine and George's daughters Gina and Anna were still debating whether to tell George they'd found his bloodied shirt. The garment had been stashed away in The Vic and could connect George to the vicious attack that landed his ex-wife Cindy in hospital on Christmas night.
Worried that someone else could stumble upon the shirt, the trio tried to dispose of it — but were caught in the act by George.
When he asked for an explanation, Elaine said they "were throwing it away". George then realised they believed he was the one who hurt his ex-wife.

"You honestly thought I could do it?" he asked them. "Attack a woman? Your mum?"
At their request, George explained the blood on the shirt was someone else's. He admitted he'd taken part in an underground fight on Christmas night.
"I beat the living daylights out of some bloke," he said, adding he "broke his nose".
"When I came back, that's when I found your mum," he continued. "The ambulance was on its way. I panicked."

George was afraid he'd be charged for taking part in underground fights or, worse yet, that his involvement could be used in court to make him look guilty of Cindy's attack.
Meanwhile, his daughters were disappointed in George for risking his life in the ring after he was diagnosed with chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) for the repeated blows to the head.
"You know one punch could be fatal, so why risk it?" Gina asked her dad, who insisted he didn't attack their mum.
George then asked the girls to give him and Elaine some time alone so they could talk, though his wife seemed less than impressed with his behaviour.

"I'm tired trying to work out what's going on in your head," she said, with little intention to forgive him anytime soon.
In the final scenes, Anna and Gina resolved to get rid of the shirt and hide the truth from the police. The sisters were ready to throw the shirt away just outside the Queen Vic — unaware that Cindy's son and their step-brother Peter was watching them.
EastEnders airs on Mondays - Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast.
