EastEnders is going to make history this year by opening up Albert Square's first gay bar - and now, that club has an official name!

BBC soap bosses recently confirmed a popular fan theory that Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth) would cash out a valuable necklace given to her by son Ben (Max Bowden) to open up the LGBTQ+ venue in Walford.

Viewers will watch as Kathy debates lots of different name options for her new bar, before deciding on a very cheeky choice: The Prince Albert!

Of course, the name is a hilarious spin on the club's original name, The Albert, when it was previously owned by Kim Fox (Tameka Empson) and her (possibly) late husband Vincent Hubbard (Richard Blackwood).

Vincent was most recently forced to sell The Albert to Aidan Maguire (Patrick Bergin) when he ran afoul of the gangster's criminal operation, with the property now landing in Kathy's hands.

When it opens, The Prince Albert will make history for EastEnders as it becomes the first UK soap to have a gay bar within its permanent set.

The club's ownership will be all the more special considering it will be opened by Kathy Beale, one of the few EastEnders original characters left on Albert Square some 34 years after its premiere in 1985.

Viewers will see The Prince Albert opening its doors on screen soon. Soap bosses are already promising that it might not be smooth sailing, considering all the drama that routinely goes down at the Vic and E20.

EastEnders continues on Thursday (May 30) at 7.30pm on BBC One.
