EastEnders: Danny Dyer's hasty exit leaves HUGE plot hole
It was reported earlier this year that Danny Dyer took a rather hasty break from EastEnders after suffering from exhaustion and stress, jetting off to South Africa with his family to recuperate as scriptwriters quickly found a way to cover his onscreen alter ego, Mick Carter’s, sudden exit.
On Thursday, we saw a panicked Mick book a flight to Bulgaria after learning that his daughter, Nancy, had been hit by a car while travelling with her boyfriend, Tamwar Masood, leaving Whitney and Johnny to run the Queen Vic.
However, neither of them are licensees, meaning that they are running the pub illegally – something that I’m sure the whole family would be keen to avoid considering their recent run-in with the law that saw Shirley Carter get sentenced to 12 weeks in prison after Aunt Babe sold alcohol at the Vic before 11am.
The irony is that it was actually EastEnders who brought the Queen Vic licensees to our attention in an earlier storyline, with Johnny and Whitney previously panicking when Mick and Shirely were being questioned by the police as they were unable to open the pub without them.
However, Mick’s son Lee Carter was also revealed to be a licensee and managed to save the day at the time, but he has since left Walford for Dover.
Mick’s wife Linda Carter is the final Walford resident allowed to run the Vic, but as actress Kellie Bright is currently on maternity leave, Linda has been looking after her poorly mother away from Albert Square.
Needless to say, the huge plothole has been noticed by many viewers, who have taken to Twitter to slam the show’s inconsistency:
#Eastenders Without Mick how can they open the pub? Last time he was away they needed Lee because he was a Licensee which of them is now?

They're running the pub illegally because none of them are licensees #eastenders

So if Mick is leaving to be with Nancy who's running the pub Whitney/johnny don't have a licence #eastenders

It is unknown whether EastEnders have plans to explain the licensee blunder in future episodes of the BBC soap, and with Danny Dyer thought to be back on set imminently, hopefully it won’t be an issue for too long!
