EastEnders pub boss Mick Carter lies to his own family tonight (December 12) after being tempted to turn to the dark side.

Last night's cliffhanger saw Mick (Danny Dyer) realise that working with shady newcomer Aidan Maguire could be the solution to all of his financial problems.

The Queen Vic's landlord accepted that desperate measures were needed to keep his family together, as the alternative was moving to Stratford to run another pub with Linda – leaving Shirley, Johnny and Tina behind.

In tonight's EastEnders episode, Mick meets up with Aidan for a proper chat and decides to go along with his dodgy job – especially once he hears about how big the financial rewards are likely to be.

Afterwards, Mick announces to his family that they'll be staying in London and the Stratford move is off – claiming that one of his friends has offered him a job at another pub.

Mick is hoping to stall for time and doesn't want his family to ask too many questions, but how long he can keep them all in the dark for is anyone's guess.

Later on, Aidan gathers all of his men together for the first time and tensions are already running high. Will Mick realise that he's getting in too deep?

Mick's association with Aidan kicks off a big new storyline for EastEnders, which will run over Christmas and reach a climax on New Year's Day.

EastEnders airs tonight at 7.30pm on BBC One.
