EastEnders’ Dot Cotton Actress June Brown To Remain In Walford Until She’s 90

EastEnders bosses have been spoiling us all rotten over the past month. Not content with bringing back fan favourites Peggy and Grant Mitchell, it’s now rumoured that the iconic Dot Cotton will be staying on the show for the next two years.

Yes folks, Dot – played by actress June Brown - will be quoting Corinthians and chain-smoking until she’s NINETY.

What a woman.

Accoring to The Sun, it’s believed that the actress – one of the show’s longest-standing – has signed a new mega-bucks contract.

It’s rumoured that she’ll now be paid £300,000 to stay in Walford for the next two years, making her the second highest-paid actor on the show after Steve McFadden AKA Phil Mitchell.

Speaking to the paper, a source close to the show said:“This is great news for June, great news for the bosses and great news for EastEnders fans.

"Both the top brass and obviously June herself are aware that she is not getting any younger but she is still very agile for her age and simply wants to go on as long as possible.

"The bosses are delighted she has no intention of giving up work just yet. She loves playing Dot and the fans love her playing Dot. EastEnders would not be the same without June or Dot.

"Though her current deal doesn’t run out until March the bosses like to get people they want to keep tied up earlier than that so they have time to negotiate new deals.”

Dot’s most recent storylines have included trying to help Stacey Branning through her post-partum psychosis, as well as the disappearance of her longtime lodger, friend and surrogate son Fatboy from The Square.

Last year, the character had to deal with her son Nick coming back from the dead, and then, erm, dying again. Dot went to jail for her role in his death, but sadly didn’t come out of the slammer with a tattoo, or prison b*tch.

Anyway, here’s to many more years of this East End icon on our screens!
