EastEnders has paid tribute to the England women's football team's victory in the Euro 2022 final.

In a scene shot after the 2-1 win over Germany at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, 31 July, various characters can be seen in the Queen Vic celebrating England's first major trophy since 1966.

The scene features Kim Fox, Lola Pearce and Queen Vic landlady Linda Carter enjoying a drink and raising a toast to the victorious football team.

At one point, Kim says: "Every single one of them is a role model, I'm telling you. If you can see it, you can be it," making reference to the number of women and girls who have taken an interest in football over the summer.

Linda also joked that she would whip out her own sports bra, a nod Chloe Kelly's celebration after she scored England's winner in extra time.

England's Euro 2022 win was the most watched TV broadcast of the year with over 17 million people watching the match on BBC One.

Over 5 million more people streamed the event on BBC iPlayer or through the BBC Sport website.

The game became the most watched women's football match in history and also the best attended as just under 90,000 spectators watched England lift the trophy at Wembley.

The previous viewing record for a women's football match was 9.3 million which was when England beat Sweden 4-0 last week with the tournament consistently receiving high TV ratings.

EastEnders airs on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One, with some episodes airing on BBC Two during summer sporting events including the ongoing Commonwealth Games. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer.
