EastEnders fans rejoice after Phil and Lisa's explosive reunion

Lucy Benjamin has returned to EastEnders – just as we hoped she would – in an explosve storyline with her alter-ego Lisa Fowler coming face-to-face with Phil Mitchell on Monday night.

The 47-year-old actress quit the soap in 2010 after 12 years of playing the loveable troublemaker, but agreed to reprise her role for a couple of weeks after her character learns that her daughter Louise Mitchell was set on fire by two bullies at her school prom.

But in true soap fashion, she clashed with Phil – who has jetted straight back to Louise as she lay seriously ill in hospital and in need of a skin graft – and the pair locked horns when they confronted each other at their daughter’s bedside.

They almost came to a truce, but then the alcoholic menacingly squeezed his ex-wife’s fingers and she squealed in pain, before he dragged her through the hospital to the back door and threw her out of the fire exit, raging: ‘The bin men can have you.’

Issuing his final warning, Phil said: ‘You never come near my daughter again, you understand me?

‘Never!’

The former home-wrecker’s return has brought the worst out in Phil, and fans of the long-running drama could’t get enough of their reunion on Twitter last night, after Phil literally threw Lisa out with the rubbish.

Last week Lisa teased her return and promised there would be ‘fireworks.’

She told the Radiotimes.com ‘There’s always going to be drama when Lisa is anywhere near Phil. There’s going to be fireworks. Phil isn’t Lisa’s favourite person in the world to be around.

‘I think he’s a trigger for lots of things going wrong for Lisa. He’s not the sort of person that she needs to be around. But in true Lisa and Phil fashion, it will be quite explosive.’

Lisa is also set to lock horns with Phil’s wife Sharon Mitchell (Letitia Dean).

‘There was history with Lisa and Sharon. There’s always been fireworks there. Lisa realises Sharon is the woman in Phil’s life and is the right woman for Phil. Sharon is such a lovely human being and such a great character. Lisa will realise she needs to get in with Sharon as an ally. Of course, Sharon’s no fool and will stand her ground and will tell Lisa in no uncertain terms what she thinks of her.

‘But Sharon is able to move on from that a lot more easily than Phil. She can have her say and have her piece and let people know how she feels. She’s a grown-up though, she’s lived. She’s made her own mistakes and is happy to move forward.’

‘EastEnders’ airs Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday nights on BBC One.
