EastEnders airs the moment that fans have been waiting for tonight (September 22) as Steven Beale's twisted lies are exposed from beyond the grave.

Steven (Aaron Sidwell) left viewers sickened in his final storyline, as he lied to his fiancée Lauren Branning and the rest of his family about being terminally ill with a brain tumour.

The schemer's shocking behaviour set in motion a devastating chain of events that ultimately led to his death in the show's recent disaster week.

Crucially, Steven passed away without his true colours being exposed to everyone – but that's all about to change tonight at the worst possible moment.

Just as Steven's loved ones are preparing to attend his funeral, the family liaison officer arrives on the Square and breaks the news that he didn't have a brain tumour when he died.

This proves that Steven was lying about everything – and as further truths and revelations come to light, Abi Branning is left panicking that her own involvement is about to be exposed.

Ian has spent the past few days struggling with Steven's death, while Lauren has been wrestling with mixed feelings of loss and guilt – knowing deep down that she didn't really love Steven.

Once Steven's true colours have been exposed, will the reaction be one of anger or pity? Will everyone still want to attend the funeral? All will be revealed tonight.

EastEnders airs tonight at 8pm on BBC One.
