EastEnders' Denise Fox will hide a sad secret from her loved ones next week when her financial struggles leave her unable to feed herself.
Viewers know that Denise (Diane Fox) recently gave up her job at the Minute Mart, but her money situation will intensify in upcoming episodes when she is unable to find other work.
To make matters more complicated, Denise will be keen to hide her financial struggles from her friends and family, leaving her new boyfriend Kush Kazemi fearing she has lost interest.
Kush will grow increasingly frustrated as Denise pours all her time and attention into focusing on her GCSE studies and finding a job.
Unaware of Denise's turmoil – and the real reason why she is so keen to focus on her exams – Kush will be left hurt when she continually chooses revision over spending time with him, leaving their relationship in jeopardy.
Things will start to look up for Denise when she attends a job interview, but it's not long before reality hits again as she is forced to eat another budget dinner.
Thankfully, Kim starts to realise that all is not well with her sister when a desperate Denise asks her to return a small amount of money she loaned last year.
When an uncomfortable Denise also pulls out of their family holiday, alarm bells ring for Kim and she turns to Kush in a bid to find out more about Denise's strange behaviour.
After a conversation with Kim, Kush becomes determined to get to the bottom of what's going on and later brings it up over dinner.
But when the situation soon becomes heated, will Denise admit the truth? Or will she continue to keep Kush and her family in the dark?
Sadly, it looks like Denise's struggles are set to increase as recent pictures showed her visiting a food bank – where Cora Cross appears to be working.
EastEnders airs these scenes next week on BBC One.
