Recent episodes have hinted that Ian (Adam Woodyatt) is harbouring secret feelings for his life-long friend Sharon, who has recently split from her husband Phil Mitchell.
Ian has been a pillar of support for heavily pregnant Sharon in recent weeks, but any hopes of a romance are about to be short-lived.
As Sharon continues to focus her efforts on making amends with her son Dennis, she buys him football tickets as a peace offering – leaving him touched.
Feeling more positive about her future, Sharon later reminisces over the past with Ian but their chat prompts him to realise that his feelings for her aren't reciprocated. How will Ian deal with this latest setback?
