EastEnders’ Jake Wood Left Fuming After Being Replaced In GEICO Gecko Adverts

If you follow Jake Wood, aka EastEnders’ Max Branning, on Twitter then you’ll probably know that he is not happy about US insurance company, GEICO, replacing him in their commercials after he refused a major pay cut.

The soap actor has been voicing the company’s mascot, the GEICO Gecko, for ten long years and although the ads only air overseas, there is no denying that any Brit abroad felt an instant sense of comfort when they heard Jake’s instantly recognizable voice in US commercials.

Breaking the news to his fans over via social media, the 43-year-old shared a link to the new ad that doesn’t include his voice, writing: “Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but this is the new voice of the geico gecko. 10 years undone in an instant.”

When asked why he’d been replaced, the star clarified: “GEICO sacked me because I refused a huge pay cut. Nice huh?”

Ouch, that’s got to hurt.

The actor, who is currently on a year long break from EastEnders, encouraged his fans to let GEICO know what they thought about their terrible decision, retweeting messages of support as Americans and Brits alike concluded that the gecko simply isn’t the same with his new voice.
