EastEnders' Jessie Wallace And Shane Richie Admit Their Storylines Are 'Ridiculous'

Over recent months EastEnders viewers have been watching the soap with a raised eyebrow and open mouth as it was revealed that Kat Moon, played by Jessie Wallace, had given birth to a son that she never knew that she had.

Yes, yes, we know that’s rather far-fetched and, as it happens, the stars of the BBC One show agree.

Speaking in a new interview, Jessie has admitted that she can’t quite get her head around the fact that her character had no idea that her daughter Zoe had a twin brother.

She shared: “I don’t know what to say! She was so out of it and obviously it was before she had a scan. And she didn’t know she had twins. She just didn’t know.

"It seems a little bit ridiculous that she did not know. I am trying to justify this.”

Shane Richie, who plays Jessie’s onscreen husband Alfie Moon, agreed, referencing another “farcical” storyline from 2011 that saw Ronnie Mitchell lose her baby, James, to cot death and swap him for Kat and Alfie’s healthy child, Tommy.

He confessed on Ireland’s ‘Late Late Show’: “That turned into a farce, for want of a better word. It split the audience.”

Jessie added that EastEnders’ storylines are always “complete bonkers” but concluded with: “That’s what makes Kat and Alfie so interesting. They’d be boring if they sat in front of a telly all day, reading the paper.”

And we have to admit, we couldn’t agree more.
