EastEnders’ June Brown Is Going Deaf But WON’T Leave The Show

We all know and love her as Dorothy Branning, Mrs., who loves nothing more than a tomato juice and a good slab of gossip and is currently residing in Walford Prison for the murder of her druggie son, Nick Cotton, but EastEnders’ star June Brown has opened up about her personal life in a recent Q&A and admitted that she is actually going deaf.

The 88-year-old actress made the surprising revelation on Saturday, alongside her friend and fellow ‘Enders veteran, Barbara Windsor aka Peggy Mitchell.

Responding to Babs’ introduction, June announced in front of the crowd: “Are you talking to me, Babs?

“Tell me, because I am deaf you see and it is very hard for me to hear so I don’t know what you are talking about.

“What did you say to me?”

Later on at the event, June turned to everybody at the session and requested that they all spoke a little bit louder so that she could follow the conversation.

She is said to have apologised: “Sorry, I would like you all to shout because I can’t hear, you see.

“I am ever so sorry. I am straining here…”

In spite of this, June reassured her dedicated fans that she won’t be leaving her beloved character of Dot behind any time soon, and she explained to The Sun: “Unfortunately it happened when I was going up to Glasgow for a charity.

“My ears impacted and they haven’t come back since. I hope that they might do at some moment.”

Joking about it, she added: “I though it was a bit unkind given I was flying up for charity!

“But I only spoke about it on stage because I was having a discussion with Barbara.”

Needless to say, we all hope that June’s hearing comes back soon - and that she feels a lot better.
