EastEnders aired some more heartbreaking scenes in tonight's episode (January 19) as Jack Branning said a final goodbye to his wife Ronnie.

Samantha Womack had been credited in the cast list ahead of tonight's visit to Walford, leaving some viewers to speculate what this could mean.

However, if anyone was optimistically hoping that Ronnie could have escaped that watery disaster on New Year's Day and would turn up unharmed, then, well, you've taken optimism a step too far.

Ronnie appeared for one final time in the chapel of rest - the first time her body has been seen since she died alongside her sister Roxy in that awful swimming pool accident.

And what followed really tugged at our heartstrings as Jack's grief took hold of him, and he told his wife how he couldn't believe their relationship had ended so abruptly and tragically.

Jack had already endured a difficult day prior to his visit to Ronnie, having been asked even more questions about her and Roxy's absence by his young children Amy and Ricky.

Seeing how upset and confused the youngsters were about everything, Jack made the tough call that they shouldn't attend the funerals after all - a decision that clearly doesn't sit well with his mother-in-law Glenda.

The family prepare to say a final farewell to Ronnie and Roxy tomorrow.

EastEnders will air at 8pm and 9pm tomorrow (January 20) on BBC One.
