Yahoo News EastEnders kicks off Kathy Beale's huge story tonight
EastEnders looks set to kick off Kathy Beale's long-awaited big storyline tonight (September 22) following Thursday's intriguing cliffhanger.
Fan speculation has gone into overdrive after yesterday's episode ended with a mystery figure leaving flowers among the tributes to Steven Beale outside the burned-out restaurant.
The flowers were accompanied by a mysterious note for Kathy, which read: "Kathy, thinking of you always. An old friend."
EastEnders has now started hyping up Friday night's episode as a must-see for fans, confirming that we'll find out who left the note.
A post on EastEnders' official Facebook page last night read: "Who's keeping a close eye on Kathy, should she be watching her back? Find out tomorrow on BBC One at 8.00PM."
In tonight's episode, we'll see Kathy having an emotional heart-to-heart with a struggling Linda Carter – oblivious to the fact that a big drama of her own is on the horizon.
Struggling with the burden of her cancer secret, Linda cracks at the café and Kathy is on hand to comfort her.
With Kathy's rich history, viewers have been speculating that any number of faces from the past could be about to make a return.
Possibilities include her villainous ex-husband Gavin Sullivan, former lovers Buster Briggs and Grant Mitchell, and even James Willmott-Brown, who raped Kathy in 1988.
Before leaving in the summer, EastEnders' former boss Sean O'Connor had announced plans for Kathy to have a major storyline that is "absolutely brilliant and it's all to do with her being Kathy Beale". Looks like it's finally here...
