EastEnders legend Michelle Collins heaps praise on Lola's final scenes

EastEnders spoilers follow.

EastEnders star Michelle Collins has praised Lola Pearce's (Danielle Harold) final scenes in the soap following her cancer diagnosis.

Lola was diagnosed with a brain tumour in scenes aired last year and was later left reeling after receiving the news that her illness was terminal. She endeavoured to make every moment she had left count, but deteriorated quickly as specialists at the hospital confirmed that all treatment options had been exhausted, and she'd die within a matter of weeks.

Heartbreaking scenes during last night's episode saw the young mother pass away in a grimly realistic fashion, as she died when her husband Jay Brown (Jamie Borthwick) wasn't in her hospital room, and Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden), the father of her daughter Lexi Pearce (Isabella Brown), didn't make it to the hospital in time.

The episode saw her loved ones share some touching goodbyes, ones that Lola couldn't return as she lay unconscious in her hospital bed.

Cindy Beale actor Michelle Collins, who will soon be returning to the soap alongside her former husband Ian Beale (Adam Woodyat), praised the episode as "beautifully crafted", saying it "brought back a lot of memories" for her.

Taking to her Twitter account after watching the episode, she said she was sure there was "not a dry eye tonight".

In a separate post, she shared a post from the official EastEnders account teasing the episode, adding her congratulations: "Superb !!! You were outstanding be very proud x."

Ahead of her final scenes airing, Lola actor Harold discussed how her exit was the "most beautiful episode of EastEnders."

She shared: "I didn't want to read my final script. We pick them up from the script desk if we are in work and my final ones were sat there for ages.

"I got to the second page and was in absolute bits. It was the hardest thing to read, but it's also the most beautiful episode of EastEnders I've ever read."

EastEnders airs on Mondays - Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer.
