EastEnders: Michelle Fowler RETURNS With New Actress!

We love it when an old favourite comes back to soap-land, after years away living in mysterious locations such as ‘Manchester’, 'America’ or sometimes 'Ealing’. Missing funerals, births and weddings, only to return in a blaze of glory and intrigue when the soap needs a bit of spicing up.

Anyway, now the ULTIMATE throwback is coming back to EastEnders after over twenty years away – Michelle Fowler!

Yes, the gobby and permanently downcast Michelle is now back in E20 after 20 years off-screen in America – but she’s being played by a new actress.

Replacing Susan Tully - who played Michelle for over ten years and is now a successful TV director – is Olivier Award-winning actress Jenna Russell.

According to The Sun, it’s thought she could make her shock appearance as soon in the show’s Christmas Eve episode – I.E. TONIGHT! (but let’s not get ahead of ourselves, eh?)

Speaking to the paper, a source said: “Eastenders have been trying to convince Susan to come back for more than 20 years but they agreed enough was enough and have decided to recast the role.

“They thought Jenna was a great fit and think she will do a great job as Michelle who is one of the most popular characters in the show’s history.

“The show has faced accusations of being boring lately, but curveballs like this shows it still keeps viewers on the edge of their seats.”

Michelle has been referenced more and more over the past year – playing an important off-screen role with turmoil in the Beale, Mitchell and Fowler households taking over the screen.

Michelle was last 'seen’ speaking to Sharon Mitchell on the phone from America last week – with her son, Mark Junior, coming to The Square earlier this summer.

Michelle had written to Peggy Mitchell before the character died on-screen this year, saying that Mark Junior’s father was, in fact, Grant Mitchell – and nobody in the family knew.

No doubt this storyline will play out over the coming weeks and months – and we CANNOT WAIT.
