EastEnders’ Pam St Clement Joins Casualty

EastEnders legend Pam St Clement is swapping Albert Square for Holby, returning to our TV screens with a guest role in Casualty’s 30th anniversary episode.

Pam, of course, played the iconic Pat Butcher in EastEnders from 1986 to her character’s death in 2012.

She returned earlier this year, visiting Barbara Windsor’s character, Peggy Mitchell, as a ghost as Peggy too tragically passed away on the soap.

Now, Pam is taking on the role of Sally Hodge for Casualty’s big 30th anniversary special, a patient who is ‘very grumpy’ and is initially not trusting of Senior Staff Nurse Charlie Fairhead (Derek Thompson).

Chatting to The Mirror about her new role, the legendary actress revealed: “Put it this way, if Sally was walking down the same street as Pat Butcher, Pat would neatly sidestep on to the opposite pavement.

“She’s an unfortunate woman because of her emotional baggage and she doesn’t always come over as being very nice. But it was a nice complicated character to play – very condensed.”

Explaining what we can expect from the episode, Pam added: “The episode is mostly about the regular cast and the amazing things that are done within Casualty, but it was a privilege to play a guest role within this incredible episode for the 30th anniversary. The effects they have there are absolutely fantastic.

“Most of the scenes I had were with Derek Thompson and with a bit of luck we absolutely clicked.”

Pam’s scenes will air on August 27 on BBC One.
