EastEnders' Rita Simons throws shade at soap after they killed off Roxy Mitchell

When EastEnders’ new producer announced plans to kill off Ronnie and Roxy Mitchell, the actresses who played the iconic duo were said to be absolutely furious.

Samantha Womack, who played Ronnie, and Rita Simons, who was Roxy, announced their devastation as the two characters were brutally killed in a horrifying New Year’s Day storyline, with the sisters drowning just hours after Ronnie married the love of her life, Jack Branning.

Now Rita has taken to social media to chuck a bit of shade at the BBC One soap as she admitted that she no longer bothers to watch it.

Previously admitting that she was too upset to talk about Roxy’s departure, Rita asked her followers: “Don’t watch Enders anymore so forgive me if I’m misinformed.

“But from what I hear… is ANYONE mourning Roxy on the square? Poor cow.”

She then retweeted a snide comment from a follower, which quipped: “I think Donna was sad for a couple of minutes.”

To be fair, Rita’s remark is not entirely uncalled for, with fans of the show previously being left bemused when nobody in Albert Square appeared to care about Roxy’s passing, with many paying tribute to her sister without consideration for the mother-of-one.

The star was quickly inundated with support, with many pointing out that Roxy’s own cousins, Phil and Billy, had hardly batted an eyelash when the pair died, and others adding that characters in the Square seem more bothered with Michelle Fowler’s return than two dead inhabitants:

Ronnie and Roxy’s funerals are set to take place this week… Let’s hope that the Mitchell family remembered to order Roxy’s coffin, eh?
