Later in the week, Kathy’s new bar manager Lewis invites Ben on a night out, but a group of guys heckle him. And, suddenly filled with anger, Ben makes a move to follow them — only to be interrupted by Kim, who tells him his mum needs assistance at the Albert.

But, the next day, Ben spots one of the homophobic guys from the night before, drags him into the gym’s alley and attacks him. But he’s caught in the act by Sharon, who covers for Ben and tells Callum that she found the guy unconscious.

However, Sharon is soon making things clear to Ben: he needs to put a stop to this kind of behaviour. And, by the week’s end, she’ll have also paid a visit to Phil in prison and told him everything, suggesting also that he reconsider DCI Keeble’s offer.

Bernie is being advised by Karen to rest, while also being given the chance by Rainie to see little Roland. But turning down both suggestions, Bernie instead takes Vinny up on his offer of her old job back.

But after clocking the terms of her contract, Bernie quickly becomes disillusioned and decides to lead a walkout – a move that leaves Vinny flabbergasted.

Dotty, meanwhile, is trying to convince Suki that Vinny is more than capable of running the business, not realising that he’s currently trying to calm Bernie and end her protest.

In the end, it’s left to Dotty to threaten to fire Bernie and brandish the paperwork that proves the contracts are real. But Bernie refuses to back down. How can this industrial strife be sorted?

A dishevelled Jean is increasingly becoming a cause for concern, with Monday’s episode seeing her tumbling out of a limo following a night out.

Harvey, meanwhile, is sulking following their break-up, but is soon given fresh worries when Neil climbs into his taxi and makes a threat he feels he can’t ignore. However, an oblivious Jean interrupts the confrontation and makes the bold move of proposing to Harvey!

He, though, doesn’t initially say yes. And Stacey, for her part, thinks that Harvey’s priority ought to be getting Jean to the doctor’s. In the end, Jean is convinced to attend the appointment, if only to get Stacey off her back. But how will the doctor react when Jean insists that all is fine?

After Nancy stays the night, Linda gets a surprise when she finds her round at Sharon’s. But her presence there doesn’t heal the mother-daughter rift: Nancy still wants nothing to do with Linda.

However, when Nancy discovers bottles of vodka in Linda’s suitcase, as well as a photo of the family, her guilt mounts and she ends up trying to offer her mum an olive branch.

Stuart, meanwhile, is awaiting his surgery. And after noticing Linda sneaking booze into a drink, he confides in Rainie that he’s scared of becoming addicted to painkillers.
