EastEnders star addresses Rocky story announcement

EastEnders' Brian Conley has waxed lyrical about his new co-star Vicki Mitchell, who's about to step into Walford as Rocky Cotton's mysterious wife.

Talking to Inside Soap ahead of her soap introduction, Rocky actor Conley said of his initial reaction to the 'Allo 'Allo! legend's casting: "I felt delighted that we'd be working together.

"I've seen her at a function before, but I would never have believed she would one day play my wife. But I'm very happy and we did have a lot of fun together - she's perfect for the role."

The BBC shared a first look at Mitchell in character late last month, while confirming that Rocky and Jo tied the knot over 25 years ago, but because the former isn't the most forthcoming when it concerns his shady past, almost nothing is known about his other half.

"I'm so excited to be in EastEnders and everyone has been so lovely," shared Mitchell at the time of the announcement.

"Jo Cotton is a great character and it is such a great story. I can't wait for the audience to meet her."

Meanwhile, EastEnders executive producer Chris Clenshaw also commented: "We're thrilled to welcome the immensely talented Vicki to the EastEnders family, as she brings to life the character of Jo Cotton.

"Vicki is the perfect fit to take on the elusive character of Rocky's wife that we know very little about.

"Brash, quick-witted, and extremely glamorous, Jo is akin to her long-lost husband, Rocky, and as you would expect she is immediately thrown into the heart of the drama when she arrives in Walford."

EastEnders airs on Mondays - Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer.
