EastEnders star Diane Parish's "terrifying" reaction to live episode

EastEnders spoilers follow.

Diane Parish and Scott Maslen have opened up for the first time about EastEnders planning another live episode.

It was recently announced that EastEnders will go live for its 40th anniversary next year, but a brand-new twist will see viewers get to decide the outcome of one storyline.

The soap stars — who play Walford couple Denise Fox and Jack Branning — spoke to Digital Spy at the National Television Awards on Wednesday about how they're feeling about this special episode.

"First, I was a bit terrified," Diane told us with a chuckle. "I'm getting no younger. When I first did that, I had a few more of my faculties about me.

"We've done them before… We know how it works."

Scott reminded her: "I told them all what to do on the last one, and I mucked up!"

The actor was referencing an unfortunate blooper from a previous Live episode where he fumbled one of his lines on-air.

The pair acknowledged that any live episode is "stressful", but Diane clarified: "Most people [in the cast] have done theatre and have that live experience as well."

"It's a different thing for us because we do a recorded format," Scott chimed in.

Ahead of the anniversary, Diane also teased that The Six's legal predicament will be coming to "some sort of conclusion" in the foreseeable future.

The six friends recently tried to pin the Christmas Day killing of Keanu Taylor on villain Dean Wicks, but his trial collapsed and Sharon was sentenced to prison for contempt of court.

"It has to [come to a conclusion]," she added. "What that is, I can't tell you but it's exciting. We never fail to surprise when it comes to The Six."

EastEnders airs on Mondays-Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast.
