EastEnders star Jacqueline Jossa went ahead with filming Lauren Branning's dramatic Christmas fall despite being pregnant

It was announced yesterday (January 15) that the actress – who plays Lauren in the BBC soap – is expecting her second child with husband Dan Osborne.

However, Jacqueline has admitted that she still went ahead with Lauren's dramatic Christmas Day stunt last year – despite EastEnders offering her a way out of it.

"EastEnders were great and gave me the option of not continuing with the scenes as they were planned," she told OK! magazine. "But I was desperate to and also knew how safe it was.

"The stuntman reassured me that I had nothing to worry about as I only had to step back a short distance and fall onto some foam and it was actually really good fun."

Jacqueline also revealed that she planned to keep her baby news hidden from her other co-stars whilst filming the scenes – until her on-screen mum Jo Joyner figured it out.

"I was trying to keep it a secret, but Jo [Tanya Branning] guessed while we were filming the Christmas Day episode.

"We were standing in the rain and she said, 'It's a good job no-one is pregnant,' then she looked straight at me and gave me a knowing look! I wasn't planning on telling any of them but she caught me off guard and I ended up confessing."

The couple's happy news coincides with Jacqueline's exit from EastEnders, which she's admitted really scared her at first. Lauren is being written out of the soap alongside Lorna Fitzgerald – who plays her sister Abi – in the aftermath of their Christmas pub plunge.

While Lauren is currently recovering well after a horror fall on Christmas Day, Abi sustained far more serious injuries and has since been declared brain dead.

Abi's life-support machine is due to be switched off on Friday (January 19), with Lauren's own exit scenes expected to air in February.

EastEnders continues tonight (January 16) at 7.30pm on BBC One.
