EastEnders star Lacey Turner has teased that Stacey Fowler could still be drawn back to her ex-lover Max Branning.
The BBC soap will be revisiting Stacey's connection with Max in upcoming scenes, when she steps in to support him following baby Abi's disappearance.
Viewers know that Max's estranged wife Rainie has done a runner with Abi and her ongoing absence will start to take its toll on him in next week's episodes.
Explaining Stacey's feelings for Martin these days, Lacey – who plays her – said: "Although Stacey is really happy with Martin and knows her future is with him, there'll always be that connection to Max.
"I think Stacey will always love him in some way, after everything they've been through she'll always have his back to a certain extent.
"Max needs Stacey more than Martin at that precise moment; it's as simple as that. Stacey knows she's supposed to be having a romantic night in with Martin, but seeing Max so desperate she can't just leave him."
Although Stacey is keen to help a struggling Max in any way she can, she gets a huge shock when she discovers he is romantically involved with her best friend Ruby.
Discussing whether Ruby and Max will make a good couple, Lacey said: "Who knows? They've both been through a lot over the years and have had huge challenges to overcome, so they have that in common.
"I think they're a good match though. I don't think Ruby would put up with Max's games – she's very independent – so I think she'd give Max a run for his money.
"Stacey definitely didn't see that one coming. She always kind of knew that Jay and Ruby wouldn't last, but she wouldn't have put those two together in a million years.
"I'm not sure Stacey knows how to feel, as it's one of her oldest friends with the man she once loved. It's a great twist though."
EastEnders continues tomorrow night (July 18) at 7.30pm on BBC One.
