EastEnders star Jacqueline Jossa has spoken out about her exit for the first time, admitting that she is looking forward to spending more time with her young daughter.

Jacqueline's character Lauren is being written out of the show alongside her sister Abi as part of a cast-shake up orchestrated by current boss John Yorke.

Although the Branning sisters' departure plot is being kept firmly under wraps, we do know that the family are taking centre stage in an explosive Christmas story that will see all of Max's secrets exposed.

On how she feels about leaving, Jacqueline told the Radio Times: "I'm sad, but I'm leaving when everyone else goes on their Christmas break, so that helps.

"But I'm really looking forward to spending more time with Ella. I do feel I've missed stuff these past two years."

However, fans still have plenty to look forward to before Lauren and Abi go, with Jacqueline promising a "catastrophic" Christmas episode.

"It doesn't disappoint. In fact, it's catastrophic, the worst one yet. We don't even get to sit down for Christmas dinner this year. The episodes are wicked."

EastEnders airs an hour-long episode on Christmas Day at 9pm on BBC One.
