The 43-year-old actor started a one-year break from the soap last year which coincided with his flame-haired character being wrongly convicted for the murder of Ian’s (Adam Woodyatt) daughter Lucy Beale (Hetti Bywater), when the killer was actually his son Bobby Beale (Eliot Carrington).

Jake expects his alter-ego to be angry when he gets out of jail, and is keen for him to “cause some havoc” in Albert Square. ?

Speaking in an online Q&A with mFortune Bingo players, he said: “Max is still in prison, wrongly accused. So hopefully he’ll get out and cause some havoc.

"I’d like to see him coming after Ian Beale for setting him up, I think that’d be a good storyline. Hopefully he’ll come out of prison looking for revenge.”

Jake is set to start filming his return at the end of the summer and the actor is hopeful there will be some more fireworks between Max and Stacey Fowler (Lacey Turner).

Stacey seems to be Max’s only supporter in Walford, despite Bobby confessing to murdering Lucy in the Queen Vic pub.

He also made a similar confession to the police which they seemed to ignore on Tuesday night’s episode.

Speaking about Max and Stacey, Jake added: “They’re two characters that work incredibly well and they’ve got a big history together.

"I think towards the end of their relationship when they weren’t together, he was a good friend to her and supported her a lot.

"I always thought they should get married but that’d be too strange. I don’t know what the future holds for Max and Stacey.

"From a personal point of view, I love working with Lacey Turner, I think she’s incredible so I hope there’s more Max and Stacey stuff to come.”
