A date has been confirmed for the reopening of a corner shop in Canterbury. Costcutter will be returning to St Dunstan’s Street this weekend after shutting in 2023 as part of a considerable redevelopment project.

Works to rebuild the store following a structural collapse are now complete and the revamped shop is preparing to open its doors tomorrow (September 28). It will feature an expanded floorspace and a wider selection of products.

Opening from 10am, the convenience store will also welcome a celebrity guest to cut the ribbon of the new and improved branch. Actor Ricky Norwood, known best for his role as Fatboy in EastEnders, will kick off the opening and meet with fans until 11am.

On top of that, the first 100 customers will receive a free goodie bag, with a chance to find a golden ticket for an extra prize. Bosses say there is a one-in-three chance of finding a ticket, and prizes include £25 and £10 Costcutter gift vouchers, hot food, and coffee.

In 2018, Co-Op became the sole supplier to Costcutter and customers can expect to see a range of the supermarket’s branded items in the store. Additionally, there will be a selection of American products and hot food, plus a range of alcohol supplied by Bargain Booze.

The construction project has also seen two new apartments built above the store. Costcutter will be open between 6am and 11pm from Monday to Friday, 6am to 11.30pm on Saturday, and 7am to 11pm on Sunday.
