Aunt Babe may have left Albert Square more than a year ago, but it seems EastEnders fans are still a tiny bit terrified of her.

Speaking to OK! Online, Annette Badland – who played the character between 2014 and 2017 – shared that viewers who meet her eventually warm to her when they realise she's not the same as her on-screen persona.

"People always seem a bit scared at first," she said "They're like, 'Oooh, it's Aunt Babe'. And after they actually speak to me, they're like, 'Oh, she's actually Annette and she's posh!'

"It's great to have played someone who has had such an impact on people."

Annette added that she doesn't see Aunt Babe as a villain despite the character having done some questionable things during her three years on the soap.

"She has her schemes, but all she's wanted is to be loved – not just by Stan, but also by her family," she explained.

Aunt Babe was exiled by the Carters in a dramatic exit in February 2017, after the family said enough was enough.

As she left, Aunt Babe cursed the Carters, hoping that they would lose everything including the Queen Vic.

EastEnders airs on BBC One.
