It's been exactly a year since popular EastEnders teenager Shakil Kazemi was stabbed to death and its impact was felt far and wide.

The plot is still being used to teach about the impact of knife crime in schools and received praise for shining a light on the problem.

Now actor Zack Morris, who plays Shakil's friend Keegan Baker who was also stabbed in the same episode, has praised the soap for its handling of the difficult storyline.

"I get messages on social media from a lot of people telling me about their own experiences," he told the Daily Star Sunday.

"I met with a youth group last week, it's for kids aged 10 to 16 years old, in a bid to keep them off the streets.

"One boy recognised me and said his whole school had been shown the stabbing episode and Shakil's funeral, and they'd had a discussion. I had no idea that was going to be the outcome of it all."
