EastEnders spoilers follow.

EastEnders' Callum Highway is left traumatised next week after he witnesses a stabbing.

Callum (Tony Clay) is on duty with the police when his colleague Fitzy is attacked by a mugger.

Next week's episodes begin with Callum already feeling stressed about his career, as his husband Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden) wants him to quit his job.

Callum isn't sure what to do, so he'll only promise Ben that he'll think about it.

Later, Callum and Fitzy head to the Slater house to speak to Kat (Jessie Wallace) after she was mugged.

Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) pays a visit and is not impressed to see the police there. He assumes the worst of Callum, but Kat puts him in his place by revealing that she was mugged and he was too busy to listen to her.

Once Callum and Fitzy (Sam Buchanan) leave, they spot the mugger and give chase.

The attempts to apprehend the culprit end in horror as the mugger stabs Fitzy, leaving him fighting for his life.

As the mugger flees, Callum stays by Fitzy's side as they wait for paramedics to arrive on the Square.

Once Fitzy has been rushed to hospital, Callum admits to DCI Arthurs that he blames himself for what happened.

Callum later struggles to enjoy his anniversary celebrations with Ben.

Ben assumes that Callum is worried about his job dilemma, so suggests that they don't talk about work for a while.

This leaves Callum feeling worse, fearing that he can't talk about what happened to Fitzy. Rather than confide in Ben about what happened that day, Callum panics and leaves.
