EastEnders scriptwriter Matthew Barry has responded to the fan confusion over Tanya Branning's ongoing absence.

Jo Joyner reprised her role as the popular character in the show's Christmas Day and Boxing Day episodes, but there's been no sign of Tanya since – despite her daughter Abi's devastating prognosis.

Later scenes revealed that Tanya is actually present at the hospital with Abi, but there's been no word on whether we'll be seeing her again on screen.

We already know that Abi's life support machine is due to be switched off on Friday (January 19), and now writer Matthew – who has penned the sad episode – has addressed the confusion over Tanya.

When one follower asked if we would be seeing Tanya again, Matthew replied: "Unfortunately the actress can't be in two places at once. That being said, keep watching..."

Matthew's tweet has left some fans wondering if Tanya could make an appearance at some point in the future, but only time will tell...

EastEnders continues tomorrow night (January 18) at 7.30pm on BBC One.
