Eating Chocolate Regularly Is Good For Your Brain, Says Science

Those with a sweet tooth will be pleased to hear that eating chocolate regularly ‘improves brain function’ according to science.

A new study found that nibbling on the sweet treat on a regular basis was significantly associated with better brain function, irrespective of what else is eaten.

Published in the journal Appetite, the study suggests that regular scoffing of chocolate could even “protect against normal age-related cognitive decline”.

Researchers analysed the choco intake of 968 participants aged between 23 and 98 and found that those who ate chocolate more regularly performed better on a series of tests of mental agility.

Cocoa flavanol antioxidants, which are found in chocolate, have long been associated with improving a range of health complaints and even have benefits for the heart.

While the new study shows that choc treats can improve brain function, the researchers note that ‘appropriate caloric intake’ still applies, suggesting that gorging on too much chocolate is still not great for health.

The study concludes that longer terms clinical trials are needed to work out exactly how much chocolate is ideal for boosting brain function.
